Worcester Red Sox News Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Worcester Red Sox (57-47) kept a perfect week going at Frontier Field, putting up 10 unanswered runs to beat the Rochester Red Wings (43-58) 10-2 on Thursday night.

After Rochester took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the WooSox offense erupted for four runs in a four inning span. In the fourth, Franchy Cordero-celebrating his 27th birthday-ripped a leadoff double to right. After a pair of walks and two strikeouts, the bases were loaded for Grant Williams, who lifted a ball towards right-center. Centerfielder Victor Robles and right fielder Donovan Casey collided while going after the ball, and by the time the ball was retrieved, Williams was on third with a three-run triple.

Cordero continued his celebration in the seventh, blasting a solo shot that easily cleared the 402-foot sign in center for his first long ball since June 26, a homer that also came at Frontier Field.

On the mound, Alex Claudio got his second straight start-after Durbin Feltman was a late scratch-and allowed two runs over three innings. Rochester got both in the first inning thanks to a two-run single by Mike Ford.

Seth Blair followed Claudio with one of his strongest outings of the season, striking out four over a season-high three runless frames.

Worcester extended its lead in the eighth, a threat that began with the bases loaded and two outs. Cordero came up and made it a two-RBI night with a walk against Rochester reliever Dakota Bacus. Josh Ockimey and Johan Mieses followed with back-to-back singles, driving home a combined three runs to extend the road team's lead to 8-2.

Cordero added another two RBIs in the eighth with a single that fell between three fielders, capping off a three-hit, four RBI night.

After Zack Kelly threw a scoreless seventh and eighth, Jose Adames did the same in the ninth to close the WooSox' tenth win in its last 11 games, a stretch that began on August 21. Thursday's win clinches a third straight series in which Worcester has earned at least a split.

The WooSox go for a series victory on Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field. Radio coverage starts live at 6:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. On the mound, Worcester's Connor Seabold (1-3, 4.29) faces Josh Rogers (7-6, 4.48).
