Knights Roll Past the Tides 3-1 on Thursday

(NORFOLK, VA) - Backed by solid pitching and timely hitting, the Charlotte Knights beat the Norfolk Tides by a score of 3-1 from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA on Thursday night. The win was Charlotte's third in three days against the Tides in the series and 16th overall this year. The Knights improved to 16-11 this season against the Tides.

The Knights scored two runs in the top of the second inning thanks to shortstop Matt Reynolds and first baseman Ti'Quan Forbes. Reynolds drove home the first run of the game when Mikie Mahtook scored from third base on a flyout to right field. Forbes then followed with an RBI single to give the Knights a 2-0 lead at that point.

Norfolk scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead in half, 2-1. Charlotte 49ers product Zach Jarrett singled home Tyler Nevin for Norfolk's only run of the game.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Knights added an insurance run thanks to an RBI single off the bat of designated hitter Yermín Mercedes. He had two hits and an RBI in the game to help lead the Knights to a 7-3 record over the Tides over the last 10 games played.

RHP Jimmy Lambert started the game for the Knights and allowed one run on one hit over two innings. Charlotte's bullpen was then strong over the final seven innings of the game, holding the Tides to no runs on just three hits. LHP Hunter Schryver (1-0, 4.41) tossed two shutout innings to earn the win and RHP Carl Edwards Jr. fanned two in the ninth to earn the save in his Charlotte debut.

The Knights and Tides will continue the series and play game five at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night from Harbor Park. The game will be broadcast live on Friday night online at www.CharlotteKnights.com.
