LANGLEY, BC- The Prince George Cougars are now winless in their last two games after a 3-1 setback to the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre on Friday night.
Riley Heidt scored the Cougars' only goal, which opened the scoring late in the first period. Goaltender Tyler Brennan was very good in net despite the loss, as he turned aside 32 of 34 shots.
Mazden Leslie, Justin Sourdif, and Payton Mount scored for Vancouver. Will Gurski earned the win in the Giants' net, as he kicked out 25 shots.
"It certainly was a hard-fought game. When you break it down, I thought we had a good first period. A tough bounce went against us in the second on one of their goals. They then had a push in the third, but we responded and were right there with them. We had a lot of guys going tonight. Disappointed we didn't come away with a point." said Cougars' Associate Coach Josh Dixon.
Heidt scored in his second goal in as many games, as he put the Cougars up 1-0 at 18:08 of the first period. Carter MacAdams stepped out of the penalty box and dished to Heidt in the circle who ripped a one-timer over Gurski's glove for his fourth of season.
The Giants replied with a pair of goals in the middle frame. Leslie tied the game at 3:50, after the puck took an odd bounce right to the top of the crease, and the Giants' defenceman swatted the bouncing puck past Brennan. Then, their Captain put the home team ahead for the first time midway through the second.
Just after his penalty had expired, Sourdif picked up the puck and darted down the right-wing. The Florida Panthers prospect found daylight between Brennan and the post and roofed his shot short side at 11:44.
Late in the third and trailing 2-1, the Cougars had a chance to tie game on a power-play. Their best chance came off the stick of Craig Armstrong, but he was denied on the doorstep by the goalie's pad.
Mount put the game away late in the third period with his empty-net goal at 17:53.
NEXT GAME: The Cougars conclude their two-game road trip tomorrow, Saturday, November 6th, against the Kelowna Rockets; the puck drops at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on 94-3 The GOAT, or they can watch online via CHL TV.
