Prince Albert, Sask. - Five different Raiders scored as the Prince Albert Raiders (4-7-0-1) skated to a 5-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades (9-3-1-0) on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Nolan Allan, Terrell Goldsmith, Landon Kosior, Reece Vitelli, and Ozzy Wiesblatt all found the back of the net in the win. Vitelli and Wiesblatt each had a goal and an assist, while Tyson Laventure added a pair of assists.
The Blades got the game's first goal 4:40 into the opening period. Brendan Lee took the puck behind the net and set up a cutting Jayden Wiens. The Blades forward made a move to his backhand and was able to slide the puck under Carter Serhyenko to make it 1-0.
Midway through the period, the Raiders responded. Tyson Laventure found Reece Vitelli at centre ice to spring the overage forward on a breakaway. His quick wrister beat Nolan Maier's glove hand for his fifth of the season, tying things up 1-1.
Allan broke the deadlock 8:53 into the second period on the power play. Remy Aquilon set up the Chicago Blackhawks defenceman at the top of the zone. Allan was able to step into wrist shot from the point that beat Maier for his first goal of the season.
The Raiders thought they added another power-play goal in the period with 4:29 remaining in the frame. Kaiden Guhle let a shot go from the point that beat Maier for what would have been his first goal of the year. However, the Blades challenged the play for a missed offside earlier in the sequence. The result of the challenge was an overturned goal, making it a 2-1 game after 40 minutes.
About seven minutes into the third, the Raiders gained their two-goal lead. Vitelli entered the zone with Kosior on a two-on-one rush. Kosior took a moment to collect the puck and wired a shot through Maier for his second in as many games to put the Raiders ahead 3-1.
Serhyenko and the Raiders were able to shut the Blades down for the remainder of the game. The Saskatoon product stopped all five shots against his hometown team to close it out.
Wiesblatt added an empty net goal with 1:56 remaining in the third.
After Maier returned to the net, Goldsmith rounded out the scoring at 5-1 with 1:36 left in the game. His slapshot from the point beat Maier's glove hand to give the Raiders three goals from the blueline on the night.
Serhyenko finished the game with 24 saves to pick up his fourth win of the season. Maier made 30 saves in the loss.
The Raiders head to Saskatoon on Saturday night for a rematch against the Blades at SaskTel Centre to close out the home-and-home series. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Catch the game on 900 CKBI or watch on WHL Live on CHL TV.
The next Raiders' home game is on Wednesday night when the Edmonton Oil Kings make the trip to the Art Hauser Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Raiders Office and at SaskTix.ca.
