Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. -- Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jack Finley scored his first career hat trick but a big second period pushed the visiting Everett Silvertips over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night, 5-4. The two clubs will meet again on Saturday night.
Finley, selected in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by Tampa Bay, found the net at 6:14 of the first period to give Spokane a 1-0 lead. A Luke Toporowski shot from the high slot was deflected off a skate to the right side, where the 6-foot-5 team captain was waiting.
Everett evened things at 1-1 midway through the first when veteran Jackson Berezowski capitalized on a penalty shot opportunity for his sixth goal of the season.
The second period was all Silvertips as they outshot the Chiefs 11-4 and scored four goals in under five minutes starting at 14:41. Hunter Campbell scored his third, followed by Jonny Lambos at 16:11, Matthew Ng with his second career score at 16:36 and Alex Swetlikoff with just 26 seconds remaining.
The Chiefs bounced back in the third with Finley's second of the night, this time shorthanded as Toporowski again earned the assist with a contested feed from behind the net.
Spokane cut the lead to two at 10:14 of the third as Blake Swetlikoff rang the puck inside the top-right corner on a 5-on-3 power play, with assists to Toporowski -- his third -- and defenseman Graham Sward.
The Chiefs kept buzzing until Finley snapped home his third goal from the high slot at 15:45, keeping the pressure on to the end. Everett goalie Koen MacInnes made a couple key saves late, including a great lateral stop on a Raegan Wiles shot with the extra skater on.
Spokane played most of the game with just ten forwards due to continued injury concerns. Rookie Michael Cicek left the game early and did not return.
Mason Beaupit started the game in goal for the Chiefs, stopping 16 of 21 shots faced. Manny Panghli came on in relief at was perfect on nine shots faced. MacInnes finished with 24 saves with Everett leading in shot on goal, 30-24. Spokane was 1-for-7 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
