K-Wings Pick-Up Two Players From UHL Wavier Draft

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce selections of defenseman Claude Amstutz (AM-stuhtz) and forward Andy Burnham (BER-num) from the UHL Wavier Draft.

With the selection of Amstutz and Burnham, the K-Wings will hold the rights of both players for next season. Both Amstutz and Burnham played this season with the Missouri River Otters.

Amstutz finished his third season as a professional, and his first in North America. The native of Uitikou, Switerzland, played in 66 games with the River Otters and tallied 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) and had 61 minutes in penalties. At 6'2" and 215 pounds, Amstutz will give the K-Wings needed size at the blue line. Before coming to North America, Claude spent two seasons in the Swiss National League.

With 38 games played this season, the K-Wings can use Andy Burnham as a rookie next year. While Burnham only played 38 games, he did make a huge impact in the River Otters roster. The native of New Liskeard, Ontario, led Missouri with 225 penalty minutes. The 22 year old forward was selected by the New York Islanders in fourth round (98th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Before turning pro, Burnham played four seasons of junior hockey in the OHL.

To make room on the K-Wings final roster, Kalamazoo waived Chris Brooks, Herman Hultgren Richard Keyes, Matt Kruzich, Pepper Pierman, and Jarett Whidden.
