Steelheads Receive WCHL Honors

BOISE, Idaho - The West Coast Hockey League announced today that Idaho Steelheads Defenseman Scott Swanson has been named to the 2002-03 All-WCHL Team. Selections were voted on by WCHL coaches and media in each of the league's member cities.

Swanson is ranked number one in the WCHL in assists with 60, Scott Swanson is only four shy of tying the WCHL record for single-season assists by a defenseman. His 69 points are best among all defensemen, second-best on the Idaho roster, and rank seventh in the league standings. The 28-year-old from Cottage Grove, MN has potted six power play goals and amassed a +20 plus/minus rating in 66 games played. Selected by the Washington Capitals in the ninth round (225th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Swanson chose instead to play four years at Colorado College before turning pro in 1999-2000 with the Houston Aeros of the International Hockey League.

The League also announced that Idaho Steelheads Rookie Martin Vasut was voted to the All-Rookie team. In his first professional season in North America, Martin Vasut ranks third among WCHL rookies with a +14 plus/minus rating. The 23-year-old native of the Czech Republic has 15 points (3g, 12a) in 46 games played with the Idaho Steelheads. Vasut, 6-2 and 205 pounds, played 43 games with Vsetin of the Czech League in 2001-02.
