Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

FLORENCE, SC – The East Coast Hockey League announced today that Pee Dee Pride rookie right wing Mike Glumac is one of two recipients for the 2002-2003 C & T Hockey Products Plus Performer of the Year Award. Both Glumac and Columbia defenseman Dennis Vial finished the regular season atop the league with plus-37 ratings.

The award caps a stellar rookie season for the Miami University product. In October, he was named CCM Rookie of the Month, added the C & T Hockey Products Plus Performer of the Month in November, and last week, was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team. The Niagara Falls, ONT native also participated in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game in Estero, FL in January. Glumac also set a Pride record for goals in a season by a rookie, scoring 37 times.

He finished the season leading all ECHL rookies in goals, and was fourth among first-year players in points with 69. Unfortunately, Glumac will miss the 2003 Kelly Cup Playoffs after suffering a broken arm in the Pride's 4-2 loss at South Carolina on Saturday.

Pee Dee opens the playoffs tomorrow night, traveling to the North Charleston Coliseum for game one of the Southeast Division Semifinals against the South Carolina Stingrays. Face off is set for 7:00, and all of the action starts on WDAR Sunny 105.5, starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 6:40.

The Pride's first home game of the series is Friday night at 7:30, in game two of the best-of-five series. Tickets for that game are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
