St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN -- After emptying the bullpen with all five available relievers in Friday night's win, more reinforcements are heading the St. Paul Saints' way. The Minnesota Twins announced that right-hander Jarret Whorff has been promoted from Double-A Wichita and will join the St. Paul relief corps ahead of Saturday afternoon's contest against Omaha.
Whorff, 26, returns for his second stint with the Saints after he made one appearance with St. Paul last season. In his Triple-A debut, he went four up, four down, retiring three hitters via the strikeout on September 2 vs Iowa. So far in 2025, he's made two appearances for the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge, firing 1.2 frames of scoreless relief and striking out three of the four batters he's faced.
A product of Lousiana Tech University, Whorff went undrafted in 2022 after three seasons of college ball with the Bulldogs. He began his career in the MLB Draft League before signing with the Twins in May of 2023. Since joining affiliated ball, his career 2.90 ERA ranks
third among all Twins farmhands with at least 100 innings pitched.
A native of Winnsboro, Texas, the 6-3 righty spent most of last season split between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita. He compiled a 2.66 ERA with 73 strikeouts (a 24% K-rate) and 27 walks (9% BB-rate) across 71.0 innings between three levels of the Twins system. He did not allow a run in 19 of his 33 appearances on the season and allowed one run or fewer in 27 of them.
In order to make room for Whorff, Gabriel Yanez was transferred back to High-A Cedar Rapids. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Kody Funderburk was recalled by the Minnesota Twins. The Saints roster stands at 27, one shy of the league maximum of 28, with 15 pitchers and 12 position players.
