WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that they have signed forward Janis Tomans. As per club policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tomans, 29, joins the Nailers after playing 21 games for the Asheville Aces of the SPHL. With the Aces Tomans recorded 14 goals and 10 assists with 7 penalty minutes.

The 6'1" 200 pound native of Riga, Latvia is in his 12th professional season, playing several seasons in the IHL, which has now merged with the AHL.

Tomans comes from the same home town as current Nailers forward Armands Berzins. "It is nice to have someone that I know from home to be a part of our team. Janis has good hands and good offensive skill to put the puck in the net," said Berzins of his fellow countryman.

"We have been watching Janis throughout the season in Ashville and feel he can positively impact our team immediately," was Head Coach Pat Bingham's comment his new player.

The Wheeling Nailers are the Pittsburgh Penguins AA affiliate in the ECHL. Currently the Nailers are just one point out of first place in the North Division of the ECHL. They host the Reading Royals on Saturday for Pirates Caravan Night. Pirates players and coaches will be signing autographs in the main concourse from 7:00 – 8:00.
