Ice Pilots fly by Lynx 4-1

January 28, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Alex Materukhin's goal and two assists paced the Pensacola Ice Pilots past the Augusta Lynx in the first of two consecutive games between the clubs 4-1 Friday night at the Pensacola Civic Center.

The Ice Pilots broke through first in the contest as Ryan O'Keefe put a shot from the point through traffic that may have been tipped in front of Jason Saal, beating the Lynx netminder over the left shoulder to give the Ice Pilots a 1-0 lead. Nick Lindberg and Chris St. Jacques added assists on the goal, the only marker of the opening frame.

Charging right back in the second period, the Lynx tied the game on a Sean Connolly goal at 1:33 as he crashed from his point position to push home a Jamie Johnson rebound. Pensacola would come back with three straight to close the period, however, with markers from Aaron Phillips, Bill Kinkel, and Alex Materukhin to forge a three-goal lead at the second period intermission.

Matus Kostur would replace Saal to start the third period after Saal gave up four goals on 15 shots. Kostur stepped in and turned aside 17 shots in the final frame, and did not allow any further scoring. Unfortunately for the Lynx, they too were unable to score further and the game headed to a 4-1 conclusion. Frederic Cloutier stopped 24 shots for the win, his second consecutive victory.

Augusta will resume their series against the Ice Pilots Saturday night at 8:05 pm EST, with the pre-game show starting one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
