
Inferno Burn Gladiators, 4-3 in Shootout

Kris Goodjohn scored with 19 seconds left in the third period but the Gladiators could not get past the Columbia Inferno in a 4-3 shootout loss on Friday night in front of 6,331 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Columbia opened the scoring as Matt Ulwelling deflected a pass past Gladiators goaltender Adam Berkhoel at 12:21 of the first period. D'Arcy McConvey added an assist as he threw the puck into the slot to a waiting Ulwelling.
Joe Bourne tied the contest at 1-1 on a slapshot that was deflected by a Columbia netminder past Inferno goaltender Rob McVicar. Mike Vigilante pocked up an assist on the goal at 14:40 of the first period feeding the defenseman at the point.
Columbia took a 2-1 lead capitalizing on a carom off the dasher board that caught Berkhoel off guard. McConvey capitalized on the chance banging the puck home. Chanse Fitzpatrick and Trevor Demmans added the assists on the goal 4:59 into the second period.
Chris Durno tied the game at 2-2 with his 15th goal of the season beating McVicar with a slapshot over the left shoulder of the netminder 6:24 into second period. Kris Goodjohn and Mike Stathopoulos added the assists moving the puck through the neutral zone to Durno.
Kris Goodjohn fired the puck past McVicar with 19 seconds left to tie the game at 3 and send the game to overtime. Goodjohn had all the time in the world as he was camped in the slot wide open before ripping the puck home. Peter Flache and Durno picked up the assists on the goal.
A scoreless overtime sent the game to a shootout where the Inferno posted a goal in the 7th round to put the game away.
Berkhoel remains unbeaten this season turning aside 25 shots as he falls to 1-0-4 record while the Gladiators fall to 20-13-5 on the year. Gwinnett went 1-for-5 on the power play in the loss.
