Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (21-13-6) won their second straight game on Friday night at Germain Arena defeating the Louisiana IceGators 5-3. The win pushed Florida's record to 4-0-3 in their last seven home games.
After a shaky start, the Everblades forged a come-from-behind effort on two third period goals to break a 3-3 tie entering the final period. David Lundbohm and Steve Saviano each scored in the third period for Florida to help push them to their 10th come-from-behind win this season.
Things didn't start off good for the Everblades, allowing a goal 10 seconds into the start of the contest as Wes Mason chipped a shot past Everblades goalie Rob Zepp for the quick lead. The goal was the fastest ever scored against Florida at the start of a game in the team's history. Louisiana increased their lead to 2-0 when Mark Rooneem slapped a one-time shot past Zepp on the power play at 9:04 of the opening period. Florida began its comeback just 19 seconds later when Kris Vernarsky notched his 10th goal of the year at 9:23 and Matt Pagnutti sent the teams to the locker rooms tied at two when he beat Louisiana net-minder Kyle Kettles with a quick shot from the top of the left circle.
Each team netted a second period tally, with the IceGators re-collecting the lead at 1:54 of the middle period when Shawn Skiehar let a one-timer go for the 3-2 lead. However, the Everblades tied the game at three on a power play goal by Brad Church at 7:46 of the frame.
Zepp picked up the win in goal stopping 18 of 21 shots to raise his record to 9-7-1. Kettles suffered the loss allowing the five goals on 27 shots faced, falling to 4-5-1. The Everblades closed out the night 1-for-8 on the power play, while the IceGators finished 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
Florida returns to action on Saturday, January 29 when they host the Louisiana IceGators at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena.
