Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a pair of transactions, with both taking effect immediately. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled forward Carter Rowney from Wheeling, while loaning defenseman Dustin Stevenson to the Nailers.
Rowney, 24, earns his second recall of the season, after appearing in three games with the Penguins during late November and early December. The majority of Carter's season has been spent in Wheeling, where he currently ranks second in scoring, totaling seven goals, 13 assists, and 20 points in 22 games. Seven of his 22 games have been multiple point contests, including a hat trick in Fort Wayne on November 8th, as well as a three-assist game against Florida on December 14th. Prior to turning pro, the Sexsmith, AB native spent four seasons at the University of North Dakota, racking up 73 points in 150 games.
Stevenson, 24, is coming off of his second recall of the season, and has appeared in seven contests with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton thus far. During his most recent stint in the AHL, Dustin picked up a fighting major, after dropping the gloves with Syracuse's Mike Angelidis. This season, he has also suited up in 14 games with the Nailers, accumulating five assists and 38 penalty minutes, as well as a +7 rating, which trails the team leaders by one. This is the Gull Lake, SK native's fourth season of professional hockey, after he spent each of the first three years in the Washington Capitals organization, as a member of the South Carolina Stingrays and Reading Royals.
Dustin Stevenson's return to Wheeling comes in time for him to face his former team, as the Nailers will play host to the Reading Royals on Tuesday at 6:00. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is also in action on Tuesday, hosting Syracuse at 5:05.
