Previewing the Upcoming Week:

12/31 at South Carolina - 6:05 p.m., Home vs. S.C. 0-0-0, Away vs. S.C. 0-0-0

Elmira and South Carolina meet for the first time this year on New Year's Eve at the North Charleston Coliseum. It is Elmira's first visit to South Carolina since its 4-2 win on November 2, 2012. It was a unique night in which the power went out at the Coliseum and both coaches received game misconducts. The Jackals were 2-1-0 overall against the Stingrays last year. Tuesday's match is the first of four between the Jackals and Stingrays this year with two games each in North Charleston and Elmira. The Stingrays enter the week as the top team in the Eastern Conference with a 21-5-3 record and 45 points.

1/3 at Wheeling & 1/4 vs. Wheeling - 7:00 p.m. & 7:07 p.m., Home vs. WHL 0-2-0, Away vs. WHL 1-3-0

The Jackals and Nailers last met in the first game of Elmira's four-game trip before the Christmas break. That game was back on December 12 and the Jackals' 5-2 win was part of their run of five wins in six games. It also broke Wheeling's five-game win streak to open the season series, and snapped Wheeling's string of 12 consecutive games with at least one standings point. Since that game the Nailers have gone 1-3-2. An interesting twist in the rivalry between the Jackals and Nailers this season is that the team with fewer shots has won every matchup to this point.

Recapping Last Week:

12/26 vs. Reading: L 2-6

The Jackals battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie the game at two on goals by Kyle Bushee and Rob Bellamy. A fluky goal by Reading's Doug Clarkson put the Royals back in front just 1:26 after Bellamy had tied it and then the Royals poured in three more goals to pull away from the Jackals.

12/28 at Greenville: L 2-4

For the second game in a row the Jackals were forced to play from behind, but pulled even after surrendering the first goal. After Greenville's Andrew Rowe slammed home a rebound, Patch Alber joined a 2-on-1 with Rob Bellamy and tapped home the tying score. Greenville, however, rattled off three unanswered goals and, despite Matt Carter's goal early in the third period, the Jackals could not pull back even.

12/29 at Greenville: L 3-6

The Jackals were able to break their string of giving up the first goal on Sunday in Greenville. Dane Walters gave the Jackals a quick lead in the first period with a rebound goal less than two minutes in. Greenville fought back to tie it before the end of the first, but Jakub Culek notched a goal less than two minutes into the second and put Elmira back in front. That lead was short lived, though, as a 5-on-3 Greenville power play goal started a three-goal onslaught that gave the Road Warriors a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Quick Hits:

* On Tuesday Elmira will play its fifth consecutive New Year's Eve game on the road, and sixth in the seven years that it has been in the ECHL. The Jackals won 3-2 on New Year's Eve in Wheeling last year thanks to 43 saves by Max Clermont and a pair of Jack Downing goals. Elmira is 4-1-0 on New Year's Eve in its ECHL era and has won each of its last two New Year's Eve Games.

* Rob Bellamy set Elmira's ECHL-era record for games played at 161 last Saturday in Greenville. He celebrated the achievement with an assist, and was Elmira's top scorer last week with three points (2G, 1A) in three games. Bellamy has 88 points (39 goals, 49 assists) in 162 games as a Jackal. Jordan Pietrus currently sits at 158 games played as a Jackal and could also pass Chaz Johnson's 160 games by Saturday.

* Jackals rookies Patch Alber and Dane Walters scored their first professional goals on Saturday and Sunday last week, respectively. Alber notched his in his 21st game as a pro and was his first goal since his junior year at Boston College in 2011-12. Walters, meanwhile, missed the first two months of the season with a concussion and needed just five games to record his first pro goal.
