Stingrays Call up Forward Steve Mele from Columbus

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team received forward Steve Mele on loan from the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

Mele, 25, is third on the Cottonmouths with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 10 games this season. The Bronx, New York, native dressed in nine ECHL contests with the Greenville Road Warriors late last season netting four points (two goals, two assists) after attending American International College for four seasons. With the Yellow Jackets, Mele recorded 20 goals and 30 assists for 50 points in 130 games. His older brother, Tom, currently skates for the ECHL's Alaska Aces, is in this third professional season (all in the ECHL) and served as the team captain for the Yellow Jackets during the 2010-11 campaign, Steve's sophomore year.
