Gladiators Heading into 2014 on a High Note

DULUTH, Ga. - For the first time this season the Gwinnett Gladiators (10-17-0-2) have strung together three wins in a row, and now head into a busy start to 2014 with four games on the slate this week against Evansville, South Carolina, and Florida.

Looking Ahead:

Monday, 12/30: Practice, 12:45 p.m. in Evansville

Tuesday, 12/31: Practice, 11 a.m., Game @ Evansville, 8:15 p.m.

Wednesday, 1/1/14: Off Day; HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thursday, 1/2: Game vs. South Carolina, 2:05 p.m.

Friday, 1/3: Game @ South Carolina, 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, 1/4: Game vs. Florida, 7:05 p.m.

Sunday, 1/5: Off Day

Scouting the Opponents:

- The Evansville IceMen (15-7-2-3) are just three points out of first in the North Division heading into the week. The IceMen lost leading scorer Jeremy Langlois (10 goals, 14 assists in 19 games) to the American Hockey League over the weekend, but still have Nathan Moon (5 goals, 19 assists in 24 games) to pace the offense.

- The South Carolina Stingrays (21-5-1-2) lead the ECHL in winning percentage (.776), despite having ten players called-up to the American Hockey League. Former Gladiator goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been a huge part of the Rays success, sporting a 16-1-1-2 record with a sensational 1.63 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.

- The Florida Everblades (19-8-1-1) head to Gwinnett for the just the third meeting this season between the two teams. As of Monday, Blades forward Matthew Pistilli (16 goals, 20 assists in 28 games) is tied for the league lead in points.

Thursday, December 26th: South Carolina 2, @ Gwinnett 3 - W

Two massive Antoine Corbin blasts were the difference on Thursday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, as the Gwinnett Gladiators knocked off the South Carolina Stingrays 3-2 in the third straight match between the two squads. Brad Phillips was stellar between the pipes for Gwinnett (8-17-0-2), earning his first win with the team making 22 saves. David LeNeveu made 26 stops in a losing cause for the Stingrays (19-5-1-2), who dropped just their third game in their past 12.

Friday, December 27th: Wheeling 1, @ Gwinnett 4 - W

In their final home game in 2013, the Gwinnett Gladiators picked up where they left off the night before, scoring early and keeping up the offense for a full 60 minutes as they defeated the Wheeling Nailers, 4-1, at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday. It was the first game against anAtlantic Division opponent for the Gladiators (9-17-0-2) this season.

Sunday, December 29th: Gwinnett 3, @ Fort Wayne 2 - W

Brad Phillips made 34 saves to backstop the Gwinnett Gladiators to their third win in a row Sunday at Allen County Memorial Coliseum over the Fort Wayne Komets, 3-2. Bobby Hughes chipped in twoassists against his old team for the Gladiators (10-17-0-2), with Maxime Legault burying the winner in the third.

Glads Notes:

Super Special Teams: Over their last 10 games, the Gladiators have held the opposition to 4-for-30 on the power play, ranking 8th in the ECHL, killing off 86.6% of opposing power plays. On the man advantage, Gwinnett has at least one power play tally in seven of nine games, going 8-for-33 (24.2%) over that stretch.

Streaking Glads: Coyotes prospect Josh Currie is tied for a team season-high with a current four-game point streak ... Forward Maxime Legault has a three-game point streak ... Forward Evan Bloodoff has four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in his past five games ... Defenseman Antoine Corbin has a three-game point streak (2 goals, 2 assists) ... Forward Bobby Hughes has three assists, and is a +4 over his past three games.

Getting Offensive: The Gladiators have scored a goal in nine straight periods, and 12 of their last 13.

Staying Disciplined: Gwinnett is the second-least penalized team in the ECHL, averaging just 11.62 penalty minutes per game. Only the Elmira Jackals (10.89) average fewer penalty minutes.

Milestones: Kirill Tulupov played in his 75th game as a pro on Sunday ... Justin Weller is one game away from 85 as a pro and as a Gladiator ... Bobby Hughes is three games away from 100 in the ECHL ... Rob Kwiet is two games from 275 as a pro ... Joey Haddad is six games away from 200 in the ECHL
