Nailers Explode For Nine Goals In Win

WHEELING,WV- The Wheeling Nailers improved to 3-0 on Saturday night with a 9-7 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena.

In the first period Rob Sirianni gave the Nailers the early lead when he scored his second goal of the season on the power play at 6:23. Cincinnati would even the game at one just 1:03 later on a goal by Ben Gordon. Thomas Beauregard would give the Cyclones the lead for the first time with his fifth goal of the season at 17:01. The Cyclones led 2-1 after the first period.

Cincinnati would increase their lead to two on a goal by Matt Syroczynski at 5:51 of the second period. The Nailers followed the Cyclones third goal with four second period goals. Erik and Nick Johnson would both tally goals, while Tobias Holm added two goals in the period to give the Nailers a 5-3 lead at the end of the second.

Cincinnati climbed back into the game in the third period when Matt Syroczynski beat Curtis Darling just :28 into the period making the score 5-4. Wheeling would respond again with four more goals in the third to take a 9-4 lead with just over eleven minutes to play in the game. The defending Kelly Cup champions would not go away quietly and managed to post three quick goals in just over five minutes to pull within two goals of the Nailers. Curtis Darling tightened up and shut down the Cyclones in the final four minutes of the game to secure the victory for the Nailers. The win was Wheeling's third straight on the young season.
