5,019 See Wranglers Fall On Opening Night 4-2

Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers were defeated by the Ontario Reign 4-2 on Thursday night in front of 5,019 fans at the Orleans Arena. Ontario Right wing Geoff Walker scored a goal and dished out two assists as the Reign spoiled the Wranglers Opening Night. Ontario goalie Jeff Zatkoff stopped 28 of 30 Las Vergas shots for the victory. Wranglers' forward Chris Neiszner and defenseman Mike Madill each scored in the loss. Goalie Martin Houle stopped 20 Ontario shots in the defeat. Las Vegas will host Ontario at 7:30 PM on Friday night at the Orleans Arena.

Ontario scored two unanswered goals to start the first period, starting with defenseman Dennis McMillan's goal at 5:31. McMillan scored off a rebound of a Geoff Walker shot for the 1-0 lead. Walker finished off a power play at 12:03, ripping a slapshot past Martin Houle for the 2-0 lead. Las Vegas countered to cut the Ontario lead to 2-1 after one period of play. Defenseman Bret Tyler picked up his first pro assist after Chris Neiszner redirected his point-shot at 13:36. Neiszner's power-play goal was his first tally of the season and brought the Wranglers within a goal after one period of play.

In the second period, Ontario tacked on two more tallies for a 4-1 lead. Reign center Jon Francisco scored off a rebound at 14:29 and Brad Mehalko scored his first of the season at 18:03. Mehalko's goal gave Ontario a three-goal cushion heading into the third period.

In the final frame, defenseman Mike Madill snapped a shot over the right shoulder of Ontario goalie Jeff Zatkoff. Madill's power-play goal came at 5:32 and pulled the Wranglers within a pair of goals at 4-2.

The Wranglers and Reign will also play again on Friday, October 24th at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
