
Salmon Kings Bring Filion Into Fold

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has signed Olivier Filion (FILL-ee-awn) for the 2008-09 season.
The former Alaska Ace began his season in France with ASG Tours Diables Noir, but decided to return to the ECHL with Victoria. The 26-year-old is considered a veteran by ECHL rule (260 or more career professional games) and will bring the Salmon Kings to a total of four veterans. Each team is only allowed to dress four veterans per game.
"We are very excited to bring Olivier to Victoria," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He is a number one center who can play in all situations. After having to face him for the last four years it is great to have him with us now."
Last season in Alaska, the 5-10 195lb Filion played in 68 games collecting 21 goals and 30 assists for 51 points as well as adding 36 minutes in penalties. During the 2008 playoffs he participated in nine games collecting 5 points (2g-3a).
For his Aces career he participated in 277 regular season games collecting 208 points (69g-139a) and picking up 246 minutes in penalties. The Montreal, PQ native played in the UHL his rookie season with the Richmond Riverdogs during the 2003-04 season. He contributed nine goals and 23 assists for 31 points in 66 contests.
In 60 career Kelly Cup playoff games, Filion has notched 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points. He was also a member of the Aces 2005-06 Championship team.
Filion spent his four-year junior career in the QJMHL with the Acadie-Bathhurst Titan. For his junior career he played in 276 games counting 96 goals and 209 assists while earning 239 minutes in penalties. In the playoffs he collected nine goals and 28 assists for 37 points in 44 contests.
The Salmon Kings' home schedule begins tonight when the team welcomes the Stockton Thunder to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a 7:05 p.m. game. Tickets are still available call 250-220-7777.
