Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Checkers announced today that the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League have reassigned forwards Joe Barnes and Andreas Jamtin from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League to Charlotte.
Barnes, 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes during the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Barnes, along with defenseman Andrew Hutchinson and a draft pick were traded to the Rangers for Matt Cullen In July 2007. Last season, Barnes played five games for the Checkers before sustaining a lower body injury that ended his season. This season, he started the year with the Wolf Pack playing in one game but didn't register a point.
Jamtin, 6-foot-0, 192 pounds, was a fifth round selection of the Detroit Red Wings during the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. This past off-season, he signed a free agent contract with the Rangers and started the year off with the Wolf Pack playing in three games with the club but didn't register a point. Jamtin has played the last three years with HV71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elite League. During that time, he played in 108 games scoring 32 goals and 25 assists for 57 points with 345 penalty minutes.
Also, head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Checkers Derek Wilkinson announced today that the team has traded forward Jeff Kyrzakos to the Stockton Thunder for future considerations.
