Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves' power play put a charge into the team's offense, notching two goals as the Pack improved to 2-1-0 on the season with a 5-2 win in the 2008-09 home opener over the Charlotte Checkers.

Mississippi's early season power-play trouble looked to be corrected as Mike Wirll connected a pass from behind the goal line with an open Ryan Cruthers in the low slot for a power play goal at 3:55 of the first frame.

Joe Barnes got Charlotte on the boards when he came down the right wing and tucked the puck through Ryan Munce's pads at 9:28.

Travis Lisabeth inched closer to the Sea Wolves all-time lead in goals when he took a feed in the slot from Kyle McAllister, drew Charlotte goaltender Maxime Daigneault to the ice and beat him over the blocker at 9:51 of the first period.

Jeff Miles, who joined the Checkers after playing for Columbia last season, pulled Charlotte even when he beat Ryan Munce up high at 8:09 of the second.

The Pack regained the lead when Kyle McAllister potted his second power play goal of the season, breaking out of the right wing corner and stuffing the puck past Daigneault at 18:21 of the second period. The Sea Wolves extended the lead in the third period when Alex Parent tipped a Michael Couch shot from the left point past the Charlotte netminder for his second of the season at 14:59 of the third period. Chase Trull would seal the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:08 of the third period.

Mississippi was 2-for-8 on the power play and Ryan Munce made 40 saves to earn the win.

The Pack opens the 2008-09 home schedule with a three-game set against the Charlotte Checkers on October 24, 25, and 26 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Tickets to every game, as well as season tickets and group packages are now on sale! Call 228.275.WOLF (9653) to reserve yours today.
