LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Los Angeles Kings and the new Ontario Reign of the ECHL have reached an official partnership and affiliation agreement, the two clubs announced today. The Reign are currently playing their inaugural season at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.
As part of the new agreement, AEG, the parent company of the Kings, has acquired a majority interest in the Reign, while Barry Kemp and his company will own a minority interest in the Reign and will continue to operate the ECHL team.
In addition, the Kings and Reign have entered into an affiliation agreement which will provide for the Reign to serve as the Kings' official ECHL affiliate. As part of this affiliation relationship, the Kings will assign a limited number of players to the Reign's roster and will also play an active role in overseeing the hockey operations of the team.
The Kings currently have one contracted player, goaltender Jeff Zatkoff, on the Reign's roster. The team's head coach is Karl Taylor.
