Dayton Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory Against Johnstown, 1-0

Bombers goaltender David Shantz earned the team's first shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over the Johnstwon Chiefs on road on Friday night.

The first period never had any sort of flow to it because of the numerous penalties by both teams. The early penalties caught up to Johnstown as the Bombers got out to an early lead with a slap shot goal by Dan Riedel with 17:01 left in the period, assisted by Ryan Smyth and Jarret Lukin. Bombers unleashed 10 1st period shots to Johnstown's 8.

A stagnant 2nd period was energized by a scuffle between Alex Penner of Johnstown and Brett Connelly of Dayton with 13:22 left in the 2nd period. Both players were assessed four minutes of penalty time. The Bombers managed just 3 shots on goal in the period, while the Cheifs fired 8 shots at Shantz.

The penalties continued throughout the third period for both squads. Dayton held off the Johnstown attack in the last frame to preserve their one-goal lead. Shantz was perfect between the pipes(23 of 23), pitching his first shutout of the season with seven more saves in the third.

Johnstown's Ian Keserich was 23 of 24 on the night. Dayton did an excellent job against the power play, killing all 14 attempts for Johnstown. Dayton was 1 of 8 on the power play.

Dayton takes on the Cincinnati Cyclones tomorrow night at 7:30 PM at US Bank Arena.

Action returns to the Nutter Center on Saturday, November 1 as the Bombers take on the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30 PM and Sunday, November 2 agianst the Chiefs at 5:00 PM.
