Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Wheeling Nailers, AA affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are finishing up their 2011-12 regular season schedule this week, with the playoffs set to begin next week. Currently, there are four possible first round opponents for the Nailers, with two different scheduling possibilities.

If Wheeling finishes fifth, they would face the Greenville Road Warriors in the first round. In order for this to happen, the Nailers would need one more regulation or overtime win than the Florida Everblades this week. A Wheeling win in regulation or overtime would tie Florida in points, but would give the Nailers the tiebreaker (wins in regulation/overtime). If Wheeling faces Greenville, the series would begin at WesBanco Arena on Tuesday April 3rd and Wednesday April 4th (both games at 7:05), before shifting to BI-LO Center on Friday April 6th, Saturday April 7th, and Monday April 9th.

If Wheeling finishes sixth, they would face the Kalamazoo Wings in the first round. The Nailers are currently in sixth place, and can guarantee a finish no lower than sixth with one regulation or overtime win this week. A regulation or overtime win would put the Nailers ahead of Cincinnati, Reading, and Chicago for good, while Wheeling would hold the tiebreaker with South Carolina (goals for, head-to-head). If Wheeling faces Kalamazoo, the series would begin at WesBanco Arena on Tuesday April 3rd and Wednesday April 4th (both games at 7:05), before shifting to Wings Stadium on Friday April 6th, Saturday April 7th, and Monday April 9th.

If Wheeling finishes seventh or eighth, they would face either the Elmira Jackals or Gwinnett Gladiators in the first round. Gwinnett currently leads Elmira by one point for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, and they also own the tiebreaker (head-to-head). If Wheeling faces Elmira, the series would begin at First Arena on Tuesday April 3rd and Wednesday April 4th, then shift to WesBanco Arena on Friday April 6th and Saturday April 7th, before finishing at First Arena on Monday April 9th. If Wheeling faces Gwinnett, the series would begin at WesBanco Arena on Tuesday April 3rd and Wednesday April 4th (both games at 7:05), before shifting to The Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday April 6th, Sunday April 8th, and Monday April 9th.

The Wheeling Nailers can clinch a postseason berth with a victory on Wednesday against the Reading Royals.

The Nailers Travel to Reading Wednesday night at 7:05, and Trenton Friday night at 7:00, before returning to WesBanco Arena to take on Elmira Saturday night at 7:35.
