Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (3-3-0-0) were in Milwaukee to take on the Admirals (7-1-1-0) on Saturday night. Milwaukee's dangerous power play took the ice early and often in the first, with the Moose taking the first of four first-period penalties less than a minute in. While the Admirals weren't able to score on any of those odd-man opportunities, they used the momentum to their advantage. At the four minute mark, Connor Brickley set Matt Donovan up in the slot and the veteran defenceman made no mistake. Just under two minutes later Donovan took his turn as the setup man, finding Emil Pettersson for the back door tap-in. Moose goaltender Ken Appleby held his team in the game stopping 15 pucks in the initial 20 minutes.
In the second, the Moose seemed to calm things down, but were still unable to crack the score sheet. Near the midway point of the game, Milwaukee captain Jarred Tinordi found Jeremy Gregoire out front for a one-timer, pushing the lead to 3-0. Manitoba's captain Peter Stoykewych made an impact as well, dropping the gloves with Mathieu Olivier in defence of his goaltender. Appleby again did his part to keep the Moose in the game, stopping 13-of-14 in the second period.
The Moose finally solved Tom McCollum just under two minutes into the third when Felix Girard won an offensive zone faceoff sending the puck right to Skyler McKenzie; who wristed it top corner, bringing the Moose to within two. Milwaukee put the game out of reach when Eeli Tolvanen found Anthony Richard for another one-timer in the slot. Appleby stopped 36 shots in the 4-1 loss.
