Laval Rocket News Release
ROCHESTER - The Laval Rocket faced the divisional rival Rochester Americans for the first time this season on Saturday night, where the Rocket fell to the division-leading Americans 3-2 at the Blue Cross Arena due to three third period goals from the home team.
The game-long goalie duel between Laval's Charlie Lindgren and the netminder of the fifth-place overall Rochester Americans became evident very quickly in the game, with Lindgren and Scott Wedgewood turning away a combined 24 shots in the opening frame. Of those 24 shots, 15 belonged to Joël Bouchard's players- including one shot that appeared to be a sure second goal of the season for Jake Evans, who was robbed point blank by Wedgewood's glove.
Despite being frustrated by the goaltender in the first, Evans went on the pick up the primary assist on the goal that gave the Rocket a 1-0 lead with six minutes remaining in the second period. Brett Kulak found the back of the net for the visitors on their fourth powerplay of the evening with a slap shot that beat Wedgewood down low on his blocker side. C.J Smith had an excellent opportunity to tie the game for the Americans shortly thereafter, but Lindgren stretched out to make an incredible save in order to maintain his team's lead.
Rochester's comeback started halfway through the third thanks to a deflection off the stick of Zach Redmond that tied the game, and the Americans took their first lead of the night a little over a minute later while shorthanded. Ex-Rocket player Yannick Veilleux scored what would hold on as the game-winning goal for the Americans with six minutes left in regulation since Kenny Agostino added his fourth of the year for the Rocket with three minutes left to make it 3-2. Laval attempted to force overtime with Lindgren on the bench for the extra attacker, but Wedgewood held on for his team's victory.
