
Monsters Hang on for Hard-Fought 2-1 Win in Rockford

ROCKFORD, IL - The Cleveland Monsters, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, IL by a final score of 2-1. With the win, the Monsters improved to 6-3-1-0 overall this season and with a .650 points percentage, remain alone in second place in the AHL's North Division standings.
Cleveland's Zac Dalpe posted a power-play marker at 19:08 of the opening stanza to make it 1-0 Monsters thanks to a slick setup from Mark Letestu and Eric Robinson. Then, a scoreless second period gave way to a tying goal for the IceHogs courtesy of Victor Ejdsell at 6:58 of the third before Monsters forward Paul Bittner spirited home what proved to be the game-winning score at 15:27 of the final stanza with Gabriel Carlsson and Dillon Simpson posting helpers on the play.
Monsters net-minder Matiss Kivlenieks improved to 2-0-0 in net this season by virtue of a 24-save performance while Rockford's Anton Forsberg stopped 25 of the 27 pucks he faced to fall to 0-1-0 between the pipes for the IceHogs this year.
