Monsters Coast to 4-0 Win over Wild
April 3, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Iowa Wild on Tuesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA by a final score of 4-0. With the win, the Monsters improved to 23-37-7-3 this season and with a .400 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
After a scoreless opening period, Justin Scott staked Cleveland to a 1-0 lead on Tuesday with an even-strength marker, assisted by Ryan Collins, at 6:20 of the middle frame. Then, Monsters forward Jordan Schroder struck for a power-play goal at 14:47 of the second thanks to a slick setup from Spencer Naas and Calvin Thurkauf. Schroeder's goal made it 2-0 Monsters heading into the third stanza and came in Schroeder's 500th career professional appearance.
In the third, Schroeder posted an unassisted, shorthanded, breakaway goal at 5:16 and newcomer Phil Lane buried an even-strength marker at 6:15, from fellow recent signee Jefferson Dahl, to cap a 4-0 victory. Monsters net-minder Jeff Zatkoff improved to 3-8-2 this season by virtue of a 25-save shutout performance, his second shutout of the campaign, while Iowa's Niklas Svedberg fell to 18-16-6 despite making 23 stops.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Wednesday road tilt vs. the Milwaukee Admirals with full coverage, live from UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in Milwaukee, WI, underway at 8:00 pm on Alt 99.1 and the Monsters Hockey Network.
