Manchester Monarchs News Release
LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS Vs. Worcester (11/12): A penalty-driven game ended with the Manchester Monarchs falling to the Worcester Sharks, 3-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Defenseman Alec Martinez scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Right wing Benn Ferriero (two) and defenseman Sean Sullivan tallied for the Sharks. Monarchs Jeff Zatkoff (4-5-1) took his fifth loss of the season with 16 saves on 19 shots. Netminder Alex Stalock (5-4-1) earned his fifth win of the season, stopping 37-of-38 shots on goal. Manchester was 1-for-9 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
Vs. Providence (11/13): Two early goals against took the wind out of the Manchester Monarchs sails as they fell to the Providence Bruins, 3-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov tallied the lone goal of the game for the Monarchs. Center Levi Nelson, defenseman Yury Alexandrov and defenseman Matt Bartkowski found the back of the net for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (2-1-0) took his first loss of the season with 30 saves on 33 shots. Bruins netminder Michael Hutchinson (3-2-0) earned his third win of the season, stopping 24-of-25 shots on goal. Manchester was 0-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
Vs. Springfield (11/14): Three different Manchester Monarchs players had multiple point games as they defeated the Springfield Falcons by a score of 4-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Left wing Bud Holloway (two), center Andrei Loktionov and center Oscar Moller lit the lamp for the Monarchs. Left wing Matt Calvert and center Ben Guite scored for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (5-5-1) earned the victory in goal for the Monarchs, making 16 saves on 18 shots on goal. Falcons netminder Gustav Wesslau (1-1-0) took his first loss of the season, halting 37-of-40 shots on net. Manchester was 1-for-10 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

The Manchester Monarchs (8-6-1-1, 18 points) are ranked second in the Atlantic Division with both the Worcester Sharks (7-4-1-2, 17 points) and the Springfield Falcons (8-6-0-1, 17 points) only one point behind them in the standings. The Monarchs are seven points behind the first place Portland Pirates (12-3-1-0, 25 points).

Manchester's power play is ranked 21st in the AHL as they have scored 13 goals on 84 opportunities for a 15.5% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs sit in 22nd place in the league as they have given up 15 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 77 times this season and have an 80.5% penalty kill rating.
Defenseman Alec Martinez (4-10=14) recorded three assists in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Falcons to extend his point lead to 14 and his assist lead to 10.
Martinez's 14 points are tied for fifth place among AHL defensemen and his 44 shots are ranked second in the AHL among blueliners.
The defenseman's 10 assists are tied for fifth in the AHL among blueliners.
Martinez also shares the Monarchs lead in the plus/minus with center Corey Elkins (4-6=10) who each have a plus-6.
Left wing Dwight King (6-5=11) is ranked second on the Monarchs squad with 11 points.
Left wing David Meckler (7-3=10), right wing Brandon Kozun (5-5=10), left wing Bud Holloway (4-6=10) and Elkins are tied for third place on the Monarchs in scoring.
Meckler leads the Monarchs with seven goals in 15 games this season.
Meckler is also tied for seventh place in the AHL with two first goals of the game this season and he is tied for fifth place in the AHL along with center Justin Azevedo (4-4=8) with two game-winning goals.
Kozun is tied for 12th place in the AHL among rookies with 10 points.
Left wing Richard Clune's 57 penalty minutes are tied for fifth place in the AHL followed by right wing Justin Johnson who has 52 penalty minutes and is tied for eighth place in the AHL.
Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 5-5-1 with a 2.82 goals-against-average and a .895 save percentage in 11 games this season.
Netminder Martin Jones has played in four games with the Monarchs and collected a record of 2-1-0 with a 1.90 goals-against-average and a .937 save percentage.
