Toronto Goaltender Jussi Rynnas Named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week
November 15, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Marlies goaltender Jussi Rynnas has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 14, 2010. Rynnas made three road starts for the Marlies and stopped 101 of 104 shots (3-0-0, 1.00, .971) in winning all three.
Rynnas entered the week still looking for his first career AHL victory, and he got it on Tuesday when he stopped all 33 shots in a 4-0 shutout at Hartford. Rynnas made 27 saves on Thursday night to backstop Toronto to a 5-1 victory at Adirondack, and then made 42 saves on Friday as the Marlies went into Giant Center and defeated the two-time defending champions from Hershey, 3-2.
In recognition of his achievement, Rynnas will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Marlies home game.
Rynnas, 23, is in his first season of North American hockey after signing as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Apr. 23, 2010. In eight games with the Marlies in 2010-11, Rynnas (3-3-1) ranks third in the AHL in both goals-against average (1.95) and save percentage (.936). The native of Pori, Finland, was 14-13-1 and posted a 2.48 GAA and a .929 save percentage in 31 games with Assat Pori in the Finnish SM-Liiga last season.
