November 15, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

PROVIDENCE RI - The Abbotsford Heat had a wildly successful week of hockey, winning four games and collecting nine points over five games this week. As the Abbotsford Heat continues on their five game road swing with a pair of games this weekend in Peoria, some great stories are beginning to shape up in the Heat's second season:

The Abbotsford Heat is currently in first place in the North Divisionthe Heat has posted a record of 11-6-0-2 in their first 19 games of the season. 24 points thus far currently has the Heat five points clear of second place Hamilton in the North Division race. However, the Bulldogs do have five games in hand. The Bulldogs will have to make use of those games in hand if they wish to cut into the Heat lead.

Leland Irving leads all AHL goaltenders in winswith a 10-3 record; Heat goalie Leland Irving has established himself as the Heat's `Go-To' Goalie. His ten wins lead the A.H.L. His three shootout wins also have him tied for the lead in that category. This past week, Irving rattled off four straight wins, allowing just two goals in each contest and stopping 92% of pucks thrown his way. Irving last season battled himself with confidence and ultimately found himself on the bench. Irving is currently on pace for a 40 win season, which would nearly double his career AHL best of 24 set two seasons ago.

The HEAT goes on, despite the injuriesLast season, the Abbotsford Heat suffered thru over 350 man games lost to injury, yet still managed to finish third in the North and win a playoff round. This season, the Heat is having successand injuries again. Out of the lineup are 4 players who started on opening night, and once again these injuries have been mid to long term. John Negrin, Kris Chucko, Ryley Grantham and Matt Pelech. Negrin and Pelech are penciled in as TOP 4 d-men, while Chucko is a TOP 6 forward and Grantham is your team's heavyweight. All totaled, the Heat have thus far lost 74 man games, which once again has the team pacing for nearly 300 man games lost, which is well over the AHL average of 200 or so.

Look at the Rooksthe future looks bright for the Heat, with 10 rookies currently on the roster. Five first year Heat players, (Greg Nemisz, Carter Bancks, Gaelan Patterson, TJ Brodie and Lance Bouma) are in the top eight in Team scoring, while Nemisz, Bancks and Patterson are in the TOP 10 in AHL rookie scoring.

MOOSE SIGHTING

The Abbotsford HEAT will welcome the Manitoba Moose to the AESC for a pair of games on November 26 and 27. The Vancouver Canucks affiliate is always a popular ticket here in Canuck Country and tickets for both games are selling exceptionally well. "These games are always well attended and have been selling nicely," comments Heat VP of Ticket Sales and Service Justin McIntyre. "Our sales team has done a great job of packaging the Moose games with other great games. Our `Moose Meat Sampler Packs' have been very popular and continue to be a hot seller."

The Heat currently lead the North Division with 24 points, which is five points clear of Manitoba, who are in a three way tie for second with Hamilton and Grand Rapids.
