Pirates Recap
The first-place Pirates had a successful week that saw them avenge their worst loss of the season on the road Wednesday against the Springfield Falcons and post an impressive victory during Salute to Veterans Night on Saturday against the Albany Devils.
In a solid all-around effort, four Pirates netted goals in Wednesday's 4-2 victory at Springfield as Colin Stuart and Luke Adam each scored a goal and an assist. Jacob Lagace netted the first goal of his AHL career and Travis Turnbull capped the night with an empty-net goal.
On Saturday night, the home crowd at the Civic Center witnessed an equally balanced display of scoring as five Pirates scored in the 5-2 win against Albany. Mark Parrish and Marc-Andre Gragnani each registered a power-play goal and an assist, and first-star of the game Travis Turnbull scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the second period. It was a night of fours in Portland as Gragnani, Turnbull, Dennis McCauley, Paul Byron and Albany's Nathan Perkovich each scored their fourth goals of the season.
Saturday's home victory moved the Pirates season-opening home points streak to nine game (8-0-1-0), which is only one game short of equaling the franchise record for a home undefeated streak (9-0-1, Wins-Losses-Ties) established in 1993-94.
The Pirates, one of only two AHL teams to have yet to suffer a regulation loss on home ice, are now 12-3-1-0, and their 25 points is currently tied with the San Antonio Rampage for the most in the League.
