LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Worcester (12/5): Center Brian Boyle collected two points to help lift the Manchester Monarchs past the Worcester Sharks, 3-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday evening. Boyle scored shorthanded and right wing David Meckler and defenseman Alec Martinez added to the Monarchs' scoreboard. Worcester picked up tallies from centers Steven Zalewski and Cory Larose. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Quick (5-5-1) earned his fifth victory on the season after stoning 43 Worcester shots while Sharks' netminder Taylor Dakers (5-6-0) burdened his first loss on the season after halting 12 shots. Manchester went 1-for-9 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

At Springfield (12/6): The Manchester Monarchs were not able to overcome a 3-0 deficit to the Springfield Flacons in a 3-2 loss at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Center Marty Murray and left wing Vladimir Dravecky put the biscuit in the basket for the Monarchs. Springfield collected goals from left wing Viatcheslav Trukhno and center Ryan Potulny (2). Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier (5-4-2) suffered his fourth loss on the season with 23 saves on 26 shots. Falcons' netminder Devan Dubynk (11-10-1) tallied his 11th victory of the year with 23 saves on 25 shots. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-8 with an extra attacker.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

Manchester is tied for sixth place in the Atlantic Division with 23 points.

The Monarchs have won seven of their last 10 games.

The Monarchs are ranked 26th in the AHL on the power play. The team is 15-for-112 with the man advantage for a

13.4-percent rating.

Manchester has stopped their opponent 104 times on 123 power play opportunities for an 84.6-percent rating this season, good for ninth place.

Manchester is undefeated in regulation on Fridays this season with a record of 6-0-0-1.

When the Monarchs score first, they have gained a point in every game but one. Manchester is 7-1-0-3 in the 11 games where they have scored first.

Manchester also earns a point when they have the lead following the first period (7-0-0-3).

The Monarchs are undefeated when scoring four or more goals (5-0-0-0).

After going 2-4-0-1 in the month of October, the Monarchs went 7-4-0-2 in November and are 1-1-0-0 in December.

The Monarchs have only one win on a Saturday this season (1-7-0-0).

Manchester is undefeated in regulation against teams in the Western Conference this season with a record of 5-0-0-1. They are undefeated against teams in the North Division (4-0-0-0) with the only shootout loss in the West Division coming against the Chicago Wolves on November 9.

Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year right wing Teddy Purcell leads the Monarchs in both goals scored (nine) and points (9-10=19) through 22 games of the season.

Center Gabe Gauthier (3-14=17) ranks second on the Monarchs in scoring with 17 points.

Gauthier is the leader on the squad with 14 assists.

Gauthier is also tied for second on the Monarchs with defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov in the plus/minus category this season with a plus-4 rating.

Gauthier is ranked sixth on the Monarchs all-time assists list with 79 helpers over three seasons. He is also ranked 10 in goals scored with 40 and ranked ninth with 119 points.

Left wing Trevor Lewis (6-7=13) ranks third on the Monarchs after 22 games with six goals and seven assists for 13 points.

Center Marty Murray (2-8=10) is ranked fourth on the Monarchs in scoring with 10 points.

Left wing Matt Moulson collected four goals and five assists for nine points in 12 games for sixth place on the Monarchs before he was injured on November 30.

Moulson is ranked sixth in the Monarchs all-time record books for goals with 57 tallies. He has moved up to seventh all-time with 122 points over the last three seasons. Moulson is also tied for seventh place with an all-time plus/minus rating of plus-34.

Right wing David Meckler (5-4=9) is tied for fifth place with Moulson.

Center Justin Azevedo made his professional debut against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday, November 19 after being sidelined with a broken wrist. The 5-foot-7, 183-pound native of West Lorne, Ontario, collected three assists in his debut, the most points scored by a rookie in his Monarchs debut.

Azevedo scored his first professional goal in the Monarchs 4-2 win over Rochester on Friday, November 21. He has eight points (4-4=8) in eight games and scored two game-winning shootout tallies. He is also tied for seventh place on the Monarchs squad. Azevedo was injured on November 30 and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Azevedo is tied for seventh place with right wing Bud Holloway (5-3=8), Voynov (3-5=8), left wing Scott Parse (2-6=8) and left wing Vladimir Dravecky (2-6=8) with eight points apiece.

Voynov leads Monarchs blueliners with eight points (3-5=8).

Dravecky leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-7.

Goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Jonathan Quick are tied for 19th place in that AHL with 2.63 goals-against-averages.

Bernier (5-4-2) is on a three-game losing streak while Quick (5-5-1) is on a four-game winning streak

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

11/30/08 - The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) assigned center Brian Boyle to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
