Phantoms Week Ahead
December 8, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
FRIDAY, DEC. 12 - PHANTOMS AT SPRINGFIELD, 7:30 PM - MassMutual Center
The Philadelphia Phantoms will travel to Massachusetts to clash for the second and final time this season with the Springfield Falcons (Edmonton Oilers). With a record of 11-10-2-1, the Falcons sit in fifth place in the crowded Atlantic Division, but are just six points out of first. Former Phantom Ryan Potulny leads Springfield in scoring with 22 points on 13 goals and 9 assists. Coincidentally, former Falcon Danny Syvret currently leads the Phantoms in scoring with five goals and 20 assists. The two were traded for one another over the summer. In the first meeting between the two teams on November 28 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe turned aside 33 of 34 shots to help Philadelphia secure a 4-1 victory.
SUNDAY, DEC. 14 - PHANTOMS VS. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PENGUINS, 5:05 PM - Wachovia Spectrum
The Phantoms and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins) continue their heavy schedule of dates with their fourth meeting of the year. It's the third of five games scheduled between the clubs in a four-week span from Nov. 26 - Dec. 26. This past Sunday, the Phantoms overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Penguins 4-1 thanks in large part to Claude Giroux's two goal effort. The Penguins are currently in fourth place in the East Division, just two points behind the Phantoms. Adam Berkhoel continues to be one of the league's most dominant goaltenders with a 2.24 GAA and a record of 9-5-0. His four shutouts lead the circuit.
SCOTT HARTNELL HELPS PHANTOMS HELP THOSE IN NEED ON SUNDAY
This Sunday, the Phantoms will host the Scott Hartnell Glove & Mitten Toss when they host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 5:05. Ever the good sport, Hartnell will be on hand to help the Phantoms help others in the wake of his glove toss in a December 2 game vs. Tampa Bay. He'll be signing autographs on the concourse before the game, and fans are encouraged to bring a NEW pair of gloves or mittens, with the tags still attached, to the game on Sunday. Every fan who does so will receive a chance to win a Scott Hartnell autographed jersey. In the first intermission, fans are asked to toss their gloves and mittens onto the ice, where they'll be collected and donated to Operation Warm in Philadelphia.
PHANTOMS ALSO LEND HELPING HAND TO CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK ON SUNDAY
Sunday's game also marks the ninth annual Phantoms Helping Hands handprint auction to benefit the Chiidren's Miracle Network at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Earlier this month, the Phantoms and selected Philadelphia Flyers players used paint to make handprints on 11x17 cards, which have been framed and will be auctioned off at the game on Sunday. Most of the prints will be sold via silent auction during the game, while others will be auctioned off live in Bullies following the game.
Tickets for this great game are still available! Call 1-800-298-4200 or visit Phantomshockey.com for more details.
PHANTOMS TO VISIT CHOP
In conjunction with the Helping Hands auction, the Phantoms visited The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia today, going from room-to-room to visit children who are staying there. The players signed autographs and played games with the kids during the two-hour visit, which is an annual occurrence for the team. The Phantoms are looking to return to CHOP in February.
MAROON FIVE (REPRISE)
The Phantoms nominated Patrick Maroon for Reebok/AHL Player of the Week consideration on the strength of his five-point night against Binghamton on Saturday night. Maroon had a hand in all five Phantoms goals in a 5-2 win over the Senators, becoming the first rookie in Phantoms history to post five points in a single game, and the ninth player all-time to do so.
Maroon collected his first professional hat trick, with all goals coming on the power play, and added two assists. It was the first five-point game by a Phantoms player since Marty Murray did it on October 20, 2006. Maroon also had an assist on Friday vs. Hartford and a goal on Sunday at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The others on record as recording five points in a game are Vaclav Prospal (10/11/96), Brian Wesenberg (12/19/97), Peter White (12/4/99), Mark Greig (12/4/99) Todd White (2/1/2000; 2/12/2000), Mark Murphy (3/16/02) and Murray (10/20/06). Mike Maneluk holds the franchise record for points in a game with six on Feb. 27, 2000.
GOING STREAKING
It appears to be getting harder for opposing teams to play in the City of Brotherly Love. The Phantoms are in the midst of a three game home winning streak that began with a 4-1 victory against the Springfield Falcons on November 28th at the Wachovia Center. During the streak, Philadelphia has outscored opponents 15-6 and has climbed to third place in the East Division. The Phantoms will look to make it four in a row on home ice when the Wilkes-Barre Penguins come to town on Sunday, December 14th at 5:05 PM.
