AHL Syracuse Crunch

Crunch Hopping on the C-Bus

December 8, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release

There have been many players over the years that have played for the Crunch and gone on to contribute in Columbus, but this year might be the most significant in terms of contributions from Syracuse graduates that the Blue Jackets have ever seen.

So far this season, former Crunch center Derick Brassard has exceeded expectations and is currently tied for the NHL lead in rookie scoring with 22 points (9g, 13a) through 26 games. For his outstanding play, Brassard was named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for October, an honor which he won twice at the AHL level with Syracuse in the months of October and April last season.

Last year, Brassard appeared in 42 games with the Crunch, tallying 15 goals, 36 assists and 51 penalty minutes. He also skated in all 13 playoff games with Syracuse, notching 13 points (4g, 9a).

After skating in 195 games for the Crunch over the past three seasons, defenseman Marc Methot has proven himself to be a valuable asset on the blueline for the Jackets this season.

Methot has provided a stabilizing defensive force on the backend and has also been surprisingly offensive, contributing eight points (3g, 5a), with a plus-8 rating in 21 games. During his time in Syracuse, Methot racked up nine goals, 33 assists and 253 penalty minutes.

When healthy, right wing Derek Dorsett has been a feisty sparkplug that was leading the NHL in penalty minutes before he was sent down to Syracuse on November 18.

Before breaking his finger in a fight with Phoenix's Daniel Carcillo on November 26 after being recalled, Dorsett had recorded two points (1g, 1a) in 12 games with the Jackets and was gaining more ice time with every contest.
