Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Maine - On Tuesday, December 9th, the Portland Pirates will host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine, home of the University of Maine Black Bears. This special alternate site home game is sponsored by Maine Savings Federal Credit Union.

This is the second consecutive season the Pirates have played a game in Orono. On December 18th last year, the Monarchs Teddy Purcell scored two goals to lead the Monarchs past the Pirates 6-2 in front of a crowd of 3,587 at the Alfond Arena.

There are once again plenty of University of Maine connections on both team's rosters this year. Pirates Assistant Coach Eric Weinrich played in Orono from 1985-88, while Manchester's roster includes Teddy Purcell, Michel Leveille and Assistant Coach Scott Pellerin who all played for the Black Bears.

The game will also feature special guest Ashley Underwood, a former UMaine basketball star, who has been crowned Miss Maine USA and is now a candidate for the Miss USA title. She will drop the ceremonial first puck and sign autographs during the first intermission. Underwood scored over 1,000 points a as guard for the Black Bears during her career at UMaine.
