Bears Head To San Antonio And Houston This Week To Open Three-Game Road Trip
December 8, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club put its franchise record 11-game winning streak on the line Thursday night in San Antonio against the Rampage at 8:00 p.m. The game marks the first ever meeting between the two teams. The BEARS then head to Houston Saturday to face the Aeros at Toyota Center.
HERSHEY'S next home game is Saturday, December 20 against the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
The Streak: The BEARS established a new franchise record Sunday with the club's 11th consecutive victory. The win enabled the team to surpass the previous mark of 10, set in March, 2002. HERSHEY has not lost since a 4-1 setback in Bridgeport on November 9.
More on The Streak: 10 different players scored game- winning goals during the first 10 games of the current winning streak, with Chris Bourque becoming the first player Sunday to record more than one GWG. Daren Machesney's three shutouts have all come during the current run of 11 straight victories. HERSHEY's penalty kill has killed off 18 straight opponent man-advantages over the last four games of the winning streak. Alexandre Giroux and Keith Aucoin each have notched 17 points during the 11-game winning streak, tops on the club.
Machesney is money: Daren Machesney has made four starts during the run, and has allowed just one goal in those four contests. He'll carry a shutout streak of 169:26 into his next start, not allowing a goal since Bridgeport's Jesse Joensuu scored at 10:34 of the first period on November 22 at GIANT Center.
Hershey South: Seven different players remain on recall to Washington as play begins this week in the AHL. Keith Aucoin, Alexandre Giroux and Sean Collins all were called up to the Capitals last week, with Collins making his NHL debut Saturday at Toronto. 26 different skaters have dressed for HERSHEY during the current 11-game winning streak.
Top of the Charts: In addition to winning its 11th straight game Sunday, the BEARS became the first team this season in the AHL to reach the 20 win and 40 point plateaus. HERSHEY takes the best record and point total in the league to San Antonio Thursday night.
