Manchester Monarchs News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Adirondack Thunder Friday night, 3-2, at Cool Insuring Arena.
The Monarchs (40-24-3-3) dropped their fifth straight game Friday against the Thunder (40-24-3-4), 3-2, and fell to second place in the North Division.
The Thunder started the scoring at 7:53 of the first period on the 20th goal of the season by Shane Conacher. Troy Bourke sent a pass along the blue line to Aaron Titcomb, who wristed a shot on goal that bounced off Monarchs goaltender, Charles Williams, and onto the stick of Conacher, where he tucked the puck behind the reach of Williams, to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
The Monarchs answered at 14:01 of the first period on the 25th goal of the season by Spencer Watson. Jared Kolquist fired a shot on goal from the left hashmarks, where Watson picked up the rebound and shot the puck past the blocker of Thunder goaltender, Mackenzie Blackwood, to tie the score, 1-1.
Adirondack took the lead at 6:27 of the second period on the 2nd goal of the season by Matthew Spencer. Brian Ward skated into the offensive zone along the left wing on a 2-on-1, sending a pass to Spencer at the bottom of the right circle, where he slid a shot under the dive of Williams, to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.
The Thunder extended their lead at 7:39 of the second period on the 11th goal of the season by Paul Rodrigues. Rob Hamilton attempted a breakout pass from the right circle, where Rodrigues intercepted the pass in the slot and wristed a shot past the glove of Williams, to make the score, 3-1.
Manchester cut into the lead at 18:38 of the third period on the 8th goal of the season by Cory Ward. With an extra attacker on the ice, David Kolomatis took a shot from the point, that was tipped in front by Kevin Morris. Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman took a shot off the rebound, which bounced to Ward at the left post, where he shot it past Blackwood, to make the score, 3-2.
The Monarchs return home on Saturday, Apr. 7 (6:00 p.m.) when they take on the Worcester Railers from SNHU Arena, for Community Appreciation Night on the final home game of the regular season.
NOTES:
Charles Williams made 19 saves on 22 shots.
Ashton Rome received a game misconduct at 5:33 of the second period.
