Americans Clinch Playoffs for Ninth Season in a Row

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, defeated the Idaho Steelheads 5-4 in overtime on Friday night at Allen Event Center to clinch a playoff berth for the ninth straight season.
Mathieu Foget scored at 4:26 of the overtime period to lift the Americans to victory. His first professional goal, came in dramatic fashion.
"It all happened so quick, said Matt Foget. "I saw the puck up in the air and just tried to get a stick on it. Luckily it ended up in the back of the net."
During the previous eight years of postseason play, the Americans have made it to the Championship Round of the AA playoffs five times, with four straight titles. Two Presidents' Cup Championships in 2013 and 2014 and two ECHL Kelly Cup Championships in 2015 and 2016.
