LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Lowell (11/2): Left wing Stephen Gionta scored two third period goals to burn the Manchester Monarchs with a 3-2 defeat to the Lowell Devils at the Tsongas Arena on Friday night. Monarchs right wing Teddy Purcell scored two goals of his own in the second period but Gionta's two goals combined with former Monarchs fan favorite and current Devils left wing Noah Clarke's first period tally, Lowell came out on top with the 3-2 win. Monarchs netminder Dan Cloutier took the loss with 30 saves. Devils goaltender Frank Doyle beat the Monarchs for the second time this season by stopping 38-of-40 shots. Manchester was 1-for-8 on the power play. Lowell was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
At Springfield (11/3): Two third period power play goals carried the Manchester Monarchs past the Springfield Falcons with a 5-3 road victory, Manchester's first of the season, at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Defenseman Troy Milam and right wing Lauri Tukonen collected the third period tallies that pushed the Monarchs past the Falcons. Defenseman Peter Harrold added an empty net goal for the insurance tally and centers Brady Murray and David Meckler scored in the first period for the 5-3 victory. Meckler's three goals this season have all come against the Falcons. Springfield lit the lamp with goals by left wing Tim Sestito, defenseman Allan Rourke and right wing Troy Bodie. Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg earned the victory with 24 saves. Falcons netminder Devan Dubnyk took the loss stopping 32-of-36 shots. Manchester went 2-for-5 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Hartford (11/4): Defenseman Brian Boyle tipped in the game winner as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday. Monarchs right wing Teddy Purcell scored the first goal of the game and also blasted the shot from the point in the third period that Boyle tipped into the net for the game winner. The lone goal from Hartford came off the stick of right wing Greg Moore. Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg won his fourth victory of the season stopping 34-of-35 shots. Wolf Pack netminder Chris Holt took the loss with 27 saves. Manchester went 2-for-3 on the power play. Hartford was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (5-4-1-1) moved from seventh place in the Atlantic Division to a tie for second place with two wins this weekend. Manchester is currently tied with the Springfield Falcons (5-5-0-2) for second place with 12 points.
The Monarchs power play sits atop the AHL with a 25.9-percentage and the penalty kill is in 27th place with 76.6-percent.
The Monarchs have the second best home power play record as they have scored nine goals on 28 opportunities at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester has scored five power play tallies on the road for eighth place in the league.
Manchester has a winning record at home going 4-2-0-0 in six games at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs collected their first road victory of the season with a 5-3 win over the Falcons on Saturday to bring their road record to 1-2-1-1 so far this season.
Nine of the 11 Monarchs games thus far this season have been determined by one goal. The Monarchs are 4-3-1-1 in one goal games, 1-0-0-0 in two goal games and 0-1-0-0 in three goal games.
Center Gabe Gauthier leads the Monarchs in scoring with 17 points (4-13=17) in 11 games. His 13 assists also lead the team.
Gauthier has scored at least one point in 10-of-11 games this season.
Gauthier's 17 points are also tied for second place in the AHL in overall scoring.
Gauthier's 11 assists are tied for first in the AHL in that category.
Eight of Gauthier's 11 assists this season have come on the power play which ranks him third in the AHL for power play assists.
Two of Gauthier's four goals are game-winning goals which tie him for first place in the league for game-winners.
Rookie right wing Teddy Purcell is ranked second on the Monarchs squad with 16 points (5-11=16).
Purcell has scored at least one point in 9-of-11 games this season.
Purcell's 16 points are tied for fourth place overall in the AHL and ranked second among rookies in the AHL.
His 11 assists are ranked fourth in the AHL in that category and ranked second among rookies.
Purcell's four power play goals are tied for first among AHL rookies and fourth overall in the League.
Defenseman Peter Harrold leads Monarchs blueliners with 10 points (1-9=10) in 10 games.
Seven of Harrold's nine assists have come on the power play which ties him for fourth in the AHL for power play assists.
The second year defenseman is also ranked first among defensemen with nine assists and third with his 10 points.
Center David Meckler has scored the first goal of the game twice in the Monarchs 11 games this season. He is tied for sixth place in the first goal of the game category in the AHL.

Right wing Vladimir Dravecky leads the Monarchs in the plus/minus category with a plus-5 through nine games.
Right wing Kevin Westgarth is ranked seventh in the AHL in penalty minutes with 44 in nine games and is ranked first among rookies. He has four major penalties that rank first among rookies.
Defenseman Brian Boyle is ranked fifth on the Monarchs squad this season and is tied for 11th place among AHL defensemen with seven points (3-4=7).
Boyle also ranks first among AHL rookies with 40 shots on goal this season.
Left wing Matt Moulson was recalled to the Los Angeles Kings on his birthday, Thursday, November 1. He made his debut with the Kings versus the San Jose Sharks on Friday, November 2 and collected his first NHL goal in the 4-2 win for the Kings. In two games with the Kings, Moulson has one point (1-0=1), six shots and a plus/minus ranking of plus-1.
Moulson was returned to the Monarchs on Sunday, November 4, and is tied with linemate Purcell for the lead in Manchester for goals scored with five goals in eight games.
Moulson also ranks fourth on the Monarchs squad with nine points (5-4=9).

Monarchs Visit Hannaford - Monarchs left wing Petr Kanko and right wing Lauri Tukonen will be at the Hannaford in Nashua on Wednesday, November 7 signing autographs and visiting with fans from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Monarchs Are Making Strides Against Breast Cancer On Friday, November 9 - The Monarchs will be wearing pink jersey ties to support the American Cancer Society and the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign during their game against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, November 9. The first 5,000 fans will receive pink ribbons, courtesy of the American Cancer Society.
