Boston Recalls Nokelainen, Assigns Krejci
November 5, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced that the Boston Bruins have recalled right wing Petteri Nokelainen and assigned center David Krejci to Providence. The P-Bruins have 22 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
Nokelainen, 21, is in his first year in the Bruins' organization. The right wing out of Imatra, Finland, began the year in Providence, tallying points in his first seven games and accumulating three goals and five assists in eight contests overall prior to his recall. Nokelainen was acquired by Boston on September 11, 2007 in a trade with the New York Islanders for center Ben Walter and a conditional second round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The third-year pro was selected by the Islanders 16th overall in 2004 NHL Entry Draft and played 15 games with New York in 2005-06 before suffering a knee injury in early November that forced him to miss much of the year. With the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season, Nokelainen had six goals and 16 points in 60 contests.
Krejci, 21, returns to the P-Bruins' line-up for the first time since leading the team in scoring in 2006-07 with 74 points on 31 goals and 43 assists in 69 games. His totals helped him to the club's Rookie of the Year Award and earned him a six-game NHL call-up to Boston. The second-year center began this season with Boston, tallying his first three career NHL points, all assists, in 12 games. He had his first NHL multiple-point effort on October 12, 2007 with two assists against the Los Angeles Kings. A year ago in Providence, Krejci had 21 multi-point games. Prior to being drafted by the Bruins 63rd overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the Sternberk, Czech Republic native played two junior seasons with the Gatineau Olympiques, notching 144 points (49g, 95a) in 117 games.
The Atlantic Division-leading Providence Bruins open the home portion of their season at the newly renovated Dunkin' Donuts Center on November 14 against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. Information on Bruins season ticket packages and individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
