Boston Recalls Rask, Sigalet Returns to Providence
November 5, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced that the Boston Bruins have recalled goaltender Tuukka Rask and returned netminder Jordan Siglet to Providence. The P-Bruins have 22 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
Rask, 20, is off to a 6-1 start in his first professional season, ranking him second in the AHL in wins and sixth with a 2.00 goals-against-average. Presently, he has won three straight contests between the pipes. The call-up to the National Hockey League is the first for the native of Savonlinna, Finland. Prior to turning pro, Rask enjoyed three seasons in the Finnish Elite League with Ilves Tampere, where he went 30-27-18 with a 2.36 GAA and .924 save percentage in 83 games. While playing for Team Finland in the World Junior Championships last year, the goalie posted a 2.11 GAA and a .940 save percent en route to winning Top Goalie honors. Boston acquired Rask from the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 24, 2006 in exchange for fellow netminder Andrew Raycroft. He was drafted by Toronto 21st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Sigalet, 26, returns to Providence after backing up Boston goalie Tim Thomas for three games since his recall on October 31. A product of Bowling Green State University and third-year member of the Boston organization, Sigalet is coming off of a full AHL campaign a year ago in which he led Providence in wins (15), shutouts (3) and save percentage (.915). He was also flawless in two relief appearances of Hannu Toivonen during last year's postseason. The 2006-07 American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year nominee for the P-Bruins is 1-0 this season after making 27 saves in a 6-3 road win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on October 20. Prior to his recent call-up, Sigalet's only other NHL experience came two years ago when he enjoyed three recalls to Boston and saw action in one minute of scoreless relief of Raycroft on January 7, 2006 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Boston drafted Sigalet 209th overall in the seventh round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He is 35-16-4 in his young career.
The Atlantic Division-leading Providence Bruins open the home portion of their season at the newly renovated Dunkin' Donuts Center on November 14 against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. Information on Bruins season ticket packages and individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
