November 5, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

Friday, November 9 - Phantoms vs. Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 7:05: The game marks the start of an eight-game set between the Phantoms and divisional foe Bridgeport (New York Islanders). Last year, the Phantoms posted a 5-3 record against the Tigers. Bridgeport has a very similar look to last year with the exception of their goaltending, which has been rebuilt around Mike Morrison and Joey MacDonald, both of whom have NHL experience. Jeff Tambellini leads the team with 12 points on four goals and eight assists.

Saturday, November 10- Phantoms at Binghamton Senators, 7:05: The Phantoms and Senators (Ottawa Senators) drop the puck on their eight-game series for 07-08. The Phantoms swept the eight-game series last year, marking the first time the Senators had ever been swept in a series by an opponent. The Senators are currently 6-3-1 for 13 points, which puts them in a second-place tie with Albany in the East Division. Denis Hamel is leading the team with 10 points on six goals and four assists.

Sunday, November 11- Phantoms vs. Albany River Rats, 5:05: The Rats (Carolina Hurricanes) make their second of four scheduled visits to Philadelphia. Back on October 12, the Phantoms beat Albany 3-0 behind a 37-save shutout by Brian Boucher. The River Rats are currently 6-4-0-1 for 13 points, placing them in that second-place tie with Binghamton. The River Rats start the week with four players leading the way with 11 points on the season. Jerome Samson and Brandon Nolan both lead the team with four goals.

WEEKEND RECAP

The team earned five of a possible six points on its three-game weekend road trip. They lost 3-2 in overtime to Portland on Friday, shut out Worcester 3-0 on Saturday and beat Lowell 5-4 in overtime on Sunday. The Phantoms are now 10-1-1-0 for 21 points. They lead the East Division by eight points, the Eastern Conference by five points and the American Hockey League by four points.

BLAZING A NEW TRAIL

The Phantoms continue to post the best start to a season in franchise history. The club is at 10-1-1-0 through 12 games. The 2001-02 team that started out 7-1 had dropped to a record of 8-4 by the 12th game. This year's Phantoms are now pacing the 2004-05 Calder Cup team, which was 10-2 through 12 games.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES

A year ago, the Phantoms did not win their 10th game until December 17. The team also reached 21 points on December 17. The club's record on that date was 10-15-1-0, compared to this year's 10-1-1-0 mark.

PULL YOUR WEIGHT

Philadelphia's hot start has been a team effort. Nine different players had multiple point games over the weekend, and even the shutout was split between both goaltenders. Brian Boucher and Scott Munroe combined for the Saturday shutout, just the second combined shutout in team history. Neil Little and Brian Regan blanked Norfolk on March 23, 2001. The Phantoms are also the only team in the league with five players who have already reached double-digits in scoring.

ON MY HONOR I WILL COME TO THE PHANTOMS GAME

The Phantoms will return to the Wachovia Spectrum for two games this weekend, on November 9 vs. Bridgeport at 7:05 and November 11 vs. Albany at 5:05. The two games comprise Scout Weekend at the Spectrum, with a whole host of activities available for Scout troops and packs of all ages and varieties. Call the Phantoms at 215-465-4522 for more details and to register your unit!
