UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Manitoba returns home in Week 5, hosting a series against the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday and Saturday nights. These will be Manitoba's seventh and eighth home games of the season, and the club will be looking to improve their 3-2-1-0 record at the MTS Centre.
Following Friday night's 6-3 come-from-behind victory in Milwaukee, the Moose bring a 1-0-0-0 record to this week's games vs. the Admirals Nov. 9 & 10. Manitoba's all-time record is 14-11-1-3 vs. Milwaukee and 7-6-1-0 at home. Matt Ellison is tops among current Milwaukee scorers with four goals and six assists in ten games, while Pekka Rinne has played nine games in net for the Admirals, amassing a 5-4-0 record, 2.22 GAA, and 0.920 SV%. Manitoba forward Greg Classen is a notable former Admiral, having played 258 career games with Milwaukee.
MOOSE NOTES
ROOKIES REJOICE: Not only did first-year netminder Cory Schneider earn his second win of the season Friday night vs. Milwaukee, rookie skaters earned four goals and six assists in last week's three games. Juraj Simek (2g + 1a, plus the shootout winner on Nov. 2) and Michael Grabner (1g + 2a) led all rookies in Week 4 scoring, followed closely by Pierre-Cedric Labrie (1g + 1a), Mason Raymond (1a), and Luc Bourdon (1a). With eight points on the season, Labrie and Bourdon now share fourth spot on the Moose leaderboard and 11th among all AHL rookies.
GIVING UP PPGAs: After going 11-for-11 on the penalty kill in two games vs. Rockford in Week 3, Manitoba allowed five powerplay goals on 17 opportunities in Week 4, dropping their PK% to 16th in the AHL at 82.7%. Friday night at Milwaukee, the Admirals opened the game with three powerplay goals, marking the first time in over a year the Moose have allowed more than two man-advantage markers in a single game. Last season, Manitoba stifled 89.7% of opponent powerplays, good for tops in the entire league and a new franchise record.
THIRD PERIOD POWERHOUSE: Alexandre Bolduc, Michael Grabner, Juraj Simek, and Greg Classen all scored goals in the third period Friday night at Milwaukee, setting a new standard for most goals in a single period this season. Previous to the 6-3 victory over the Admirals, the Moose had scored three goals in one period four times, most recently at Hamilton on Oct. 21/07 (5-1W). Manitoba's franchise record for most goals in a single period is six, which was accomplished four times, most recently vs. Cleveland on Apr. 15/06 (8-1W).
