Molendyk Named to Canada U-17 Roster for Capital City Challenge

CALGARY, AB - Tanner Molendyk is entering the international hockey scene.

The Saskatoon Blades defenceman has been named to Team Canada's U-17 roster to compete at the Capital City Challenge at the end of the month. The McBride, BC product is one of 66 players who will wear the Maple Leaf from November 26th to December 4th in Ottawa, ON.

The smooth-skating blue-liner will also be joined by Blades hockey operations members Riley Kosmolak as Team Canada Black's equipment manager and Josh Hoetmer as Team Canada White's Mental Performance Consultant.

Molendyk, who was drafted fifth overall by the Blades in 2020, is in the early stages of his sophomore campaign in the WHL. He's collected four points (1G-3A) in nine games, which includes notching his first career goal on October 9th against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The 2005-born defender will land on one of three Team Canada squads for the Capital City Challenge; a four-team tournament that will also include Canada's National Women's Team.

The Capital City Challenge opens on November 26 at TD Place Arena, home of the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League. Canada's centralization roster will face Team Canada White in the tournament opener at 12 p.m. ET, followed by Team Canada Black taking on Team Canada Red at 7 p.m. ET.
