Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO (November 26, 2014) - The Missouri Mavericks took a 6-0 defeat on Wednesday night at the hands of Central Division rival, the Allen Americans, at Independence Events Center.
The Allen Americans took an early 1-0 lead only 2:01 into the first period with a goal by Ian Schultz, his fifth of the season for the Americans. The remainder of the opening frame ticked by quietly, with only one penalty, served by Allen's Gregor Hanson (hooking).
Allen doubled their lead 2-0 with a tally served up by defenseman Justin Baker at 5:10 of the second period. Brian McMillin and Chad Costello notched the assists. Then Spencer Asuchak made it 3-0 Allen at 9:06, aided by Gary Steffes and Trevor Ludwig.
The contest had been quiet on the penalty front, until a high-sticking call on David Rutherford and a scrum between Mavs defenseman Martin Lee and Allen's Brett Lyon combined to send Missouri to their first penalty kill of the night. The Americans capitalized on their man-advantage to score their fourth lamp-lighter of the night over Mavericks goaltender, Mike Clemente, ending his night between the pipes as John Griggs came in to relieve him of duty.
But the Americans weren't finished with their offensive run, piling on another two goals in the first ten minutes of the third period for a monstrous 6-0 advantage they maintained through to the final horn.
The Missouri Mavericks play their next game at home on Friday, November 28th at Independence Events Center against Independence Cup rival, the Wichita Thunder. Puck drops at 7:05pm (CST).
