Last Time Out

The Thunder went back to Shane Owen while the Condors came right back with Ty Rimmer and the decisions paid dividends for both teams early as the goalies were perfect through the first 20 minutes. It wouldn't be until the 15:22 mark of the second when the Thunder struck on a five-on-three power play thanks to Peter Sivak, who received a terrific pass from Tyler Shattock across the crease and buried the first goal in the open net.

With time remaining on the five-on-four power play Tyler Maxwell scored his team leading sixth goal to put the Thunder up 2-0.

In the third period Connor Jones scored a power-play goal for the Condors but the Thunder regained their two-goal lead thanks to...what else...another power-play goal, this time from James Henry who picked up the puck in front of the net and put it past Rimmer for the 3-1 Thunder lead. Ryan Hayes sealed the deal with an empty netter and the Thunder won their third-straight 4-1.

Tonight

The Thunder look to extend their dominance over the Condors this season as the go for their sixth straight win against their rival down south. The Condors started the series this season with a win in their own barn before losing five straight to the Thunder. The teams play eight more times after tonight's game but won't meet again until the game after Christmas set for puck drop in Bakersfield. In the last five seasons the Thunder are 30-17-2-3 against the Condors.

Overall the Thunder have won three-games in-a-row after losing four-straight. Their record is starting to turn but the work has not been done yet.

Who to Watch

Time to go back to the tried and true with watching #91 tonight. Peter Sivak has been a monster against the Condors, having 4 goals and 5 assists in six games against Bakersfield. That means nine of his 12 points this season have come against the Condors!

In total, Sivak has played 24 games in his career against Bakersfield and has 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points. That means 23.3% of his 151 career ECHL points have come against the Condors.

Top Tendy

Shane Owen has put on a number of great shows this season both in front of the Stockton faithful and on the road, but this past week he was rewarded for two of his strongest performances when he was named the CCM Hockey ECHL Goalie of the Week for the week of November 17 through November 23.

Owen, 23, had two wins over the Condors last week and recorded a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .956 save-percentage in two appearances for the Thunder.

The Shanty Bay, Ontario native stopped 29 shots during Thursday's morning game in Bakersfield to help his team to the 3-2 win and topped that performance on Sunday with a 36 save, 4-1 victory over the Condors at Stockton Arena.

The Thunder netminder has appeared in 12 games for the Thunder this season, recording a 5-6-0 record and leads the ECHL with 375 saves. Owen has appeared in 72 career ECHL games with the Thunder, Utah Grizzlies, Alaska Aces, Florida Everblades and South Carolina Stingrays and has posted a 26-28-10 record with two shutouts.

Owen is the eighth goalie in Thunder history to pick up this award, joining Jake Moreland, Andrew Perugini, Bryan Pitton, Tyson Sexsmith, Olivier Roy, Cody Reichard and most recently Brian Foster, who accomplished this feat around the same time last season.

You can congratulate Shane for this tremendous honor by sending him a pound on the Shnarped Hockey app ! Don't have it? To the Max!

While Jon Booras of the Tulsa Oilers was named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week after he had 5 goals last week, a case was certainly made for Tyler Maxwell after the week he had.

Maxwell had 3 goals and 4 assists last week and was announced as a runner up for the award along with Allen's Chad Costello and former Thunder forward and current Orlando Solar Bear Greg Miller. The SoCal native has eight of his 14 points against his former team, the Bakersfield Condors, this season.

Keeping Up with the Jones'

Bakersfield's Connor and Kellen Jones have been great this season. Not only are the pair at the top of the Condors leaderboard in points in just their first year pro, but the duo has put up 17 combined points against the Thunder this season.

The pair have used their speed and ability to know where the other is on the ice to get their team some points on the board.

Summarizing the News

Apart from Shane Owen being named the Goalie of the Week, the Thunder were in the news all day yesterday with goalie Kent Simpson being recalled by the New York Islanders and assigned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers due to injury to one of their goaltenders.

Then the Thunder's NHL affiliate made a trade that sent former third round pick and Thunder defenseman Andrey Pedan to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for former second round pick Alexandre Mallet and a third round pick in 2016. Mallet was immediately reassigned to the Thunder but will not play in today's game.

Finally the Bakersfield Condors made a trade yesterday that sent forward Jim McKenzie to the Evansville IceMen for futures.
