Rush Lose Sixth Straight
November 26, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(RAPID CITY, SD) - In a time where we all reflect on what we are thankful for, the Rapid City Rush gave thanks to the opportunity to play at home for five straight games. Starting this homestand was the Brampton Beast, who would extend the Rush losing streak to six games for their first win in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. With 1:32 left in the game, a puck deflected off of the body of Tyson Fawcett and past Etienne Marcoux, giving the Beast a 4-3 win after 60 minutes.
Brampton started off the scoring in the game just 6:20 in, as Jason Dale sent a rolling puck past Marcoux to give the Beast an early 1-0 lead. With a minute to play in the first period, Daniel Tetrault went to the box for a tripping penalty, leading to the second and final power play of the game for the Beast. With 19.4 seconds left in the frame, Chad Painchaud sent a cross-ice one-timer in to extend the Beast advantage to 2-0 heading into the second.
The Rush found life in the second, maintaining close quarters on the scoreboard with the Beast. Rush captain Jesse Schultz notched his fourth goal of the season, sending home a pass from Robin Soudek to cut the deficit to 2-1 just 5:30 into the period. Exactly 2:26 later, in the midst of four-on-four hockey, Anthony Maione fired a shot from the near wall towards the far post and in, re-establishing the two goal lead at 3-1. Closing out second period entries was the Rush captain again, as Schultz slammed home a rebound off of a Daniel Tetrault shot to bring the Rush within striking distance at 3-2 with 5:01 left in the second.
Looking to comeback from behind for the first time all season, the Rush evened things up moments into the final act. At the 6:38 mark of the third period, Tetrault would fire a shot from the far wall, banking it off the body off Robin Soudek and in, knotting the game up at 3-3. Unfortunately for the Rush, with 1:32 left in the game, Brayden Rose floated a shot from the point, that achieved the same result as the Rush's game-tying goal: off of the body of Tyson Fawcett and in, ultimately leading to a 4-3 Rush defeat.
Etienne Marcoux received his second straight loss, also his second with the Rush (1-5-1 in total on the season). Brampton wins their first game in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in five tries dating back to their inaugural season last year. The Rush are now on a six-game losing streak, tying the franchise record set in last season. Rush forward J.P. Chabot played in his 300th game as a professional in tonight's game. Rush captain Jesse Schultz had his first multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice and increasing his goal lamp ignitions to 5 on the year. Following the trend of multi-point games was Robin Soudek (G, Ast) and Daniel Tetrault (2 Ast). Both teams meet again Friday night at Premier Home Mortgage Ice in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center at 7:05 p.m. MST.
