Last Time Out: The Memphis Redbirds put together another late-inning rally and defeated the Louisville Bats by a score of 6-4 on Saturday night. After Louisville took an early 1-0 lead, the Redbirds went ahead in the third when Nolan Gorman launched a two-run home run, his 14th of the year with Memphis and 25th overall. The Bats tied the game with a run in the fifth and went back on top with two runs in the seventh, but the 'Birds took control from there. In the bottom of the seventh, Kramer Robertson grounded a single into right field, scoring two and tying the game. In the eighth, Brendan Donovan and Robertson each drew bases-loaded walks as the Redbirds took a 6-4 advantage. Jacob Bosiokovic struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure the save.
Memphis Starter: Matthew Liberatore will make his 20th appearance and 18th start of the season for the Redbirds today. In his last start against Nashville, Liberatore yielded just three runs in seven innings and earned the win. The 21-year-old had an excellent month of August, going seven innings in three of his four starts and posting a 2.84 ERA to earn Cardinals' Minor League Pitcher of the Month honors. Liberatore has made four starts against Louisville this season and has a 5.40 ERA in 20.0 innings. His most recent start against the Bats came on July 21 when he struck out nine in six-scoreless frames. A former first round pick of Tampa Bay in 2018, Liberatore is ranked as the No. 48 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline.
Louisville Starter: Reiver Sanmartin makes his 21st appearance and 14th start of the season for Louisville this afternoon. Sanmartin started the series opener on Tuesday and earned the win, allowing three runs in five innings. Sanmartin has now won four straight starts and has allowed just six earned runs in 21 innings over that stretch. The 25-year-old has made four appearances and two starts against Memphis this season, posting a 3.86 ERA in 11.2 innings.
Brendan's Bringing It: Brendan Donovan had one heck of a series in Nashville last week. He went 9-19 (BA of .474) at the plate with eight runs scored, two home runs and eight runs driven in. Donovan was named the Triple-A East Player of the Week after his outstanding performance. So far this week against Louisville, Donovan has four hits and five RBI in five games. He had a go-ahead, opposite-field home run off the left-field foul pole in the bottom of the eighth on Friday night that turned out to be the eventual game-winner. His bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning on Saturday also proved to be the game-winning run.
Good to be Gorman: Nolan Gorman has had an outstanding start to the month of September. In 14 games, Gorman is hitting .328 with four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs. Gorman has homered twice this week against Louisville and now has 25 long balls on the season between Double-A and Triple-A.
Austin's Power: Austin Warner has been absolutely dominant out of the Redbirds bullpen over the last three months. Since the beginning of July, Warner has posted a 1.60 ERA in 21 appearances and 33.2 innings. Over that stretch, Warner has a 35:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a 0.68 WHIP and is holding opponents to a .168 batting average against.
Welcome to Memphis: Jacob Bosiokovic has posted a spotless ERA since being promoted to Memphis on August 31. In five appearances, Bosiokovic has struck out 12 in seven innings and only allowed three hits. The converted position player is in just his second season pitching at the professional level.
